I am not sure if this will help. If your blog is that highly ranked then use that for adds too. Company like us with not that much money to spend will be able to do some sort of campaign. Hope this might help.

I originally intended to use this for personal sites here and there, as most other CMS’ I have used were large, bloated, and very resource intensive ( Joomla for example ). Though I loved Joomla, I just cannot afford to use it anymore with more than one site on VPS hosting.

The CMS I made now is kind of like a mixture between Joomla, WordPress and Drupal; all the ideal rolled into one much smaller package. So far from testing, it runs faster than either of the three listed and has most all the same features. It can be extended with components and plugins very easily ( like Joomla, but much, much easier ), supports SEF out of the box with complete control over URL structure, etc. It has a lot of useful features I did not find in either package as well; resources to create and maintain backups of site settings and database, etc.

I have spent so much time optimizing ( about the last 6 months on optimizing alone ) and page caching. A cached page generates one database query by default, a non cached page generates two ( this is before or after logging in ).

Not to mention, the CMS by default has a lot of Ajaxed features. The admin ( in which you can rename and relocate for security ) has a lot of nice Ajax for managing, adding pages, etc. It also has a forum component that natively integrates with the CMS, which too uses some good Ajax implementation.

So far it runs REALLY good, I am thoroughly impressed with the final product. My question is, since I am in need of money and do not want to sell the script ( it WILL be open source ), what is the ideal way to make a profit from Open Source without making it a commercial product? Do ads like Adsense really do any good? Those interested probably will know exactly what the ads are and definetly will not click them, so how else can you make money from such a product?

How can I set up the advertising space so that I do not have to change 100 pages just to get the ads online?

I do not know anything about style sheets and I do not have it on my pages. I do not use WordPress either and would like not to change over unless it’s necessary.

Or is it done with Java Script?

Where can I learn about these things?

Switch your file extensions to .php

make a new php file called ads.php and place ONLY the advertisement code there

on each page, where you want the ad to appear put:

include('./ads.php');
?>

Thats the simplest way. I would just switch to a PHP powered website entirely if you want to update it frequently.

The question went into voting and I was not able to correct my answer. My answer stated to use an external JavaScript file, .js file. Someone else pointed out that JavaScript could be turned off by the user on the client side. I believe that this answer was partly right.

If you want to change an ad on a thousand web pages easily, you could use a server-side scripting language, like PHP, and then the web programmer is in control and the user cannot turn it off or otherwise mess up your ads.
This is not really a question. I spent 5 points here to try to clarify my previous answer on someone else’s question. It seems that when a question goes into voting, I was not able to correct my answer or comment on it.

1. People have told me about a program called GDI (Global Domains International). It states you refer other people and you get $ 1 per person, and a dollar for each person they refer and so on and so on, down five lines. Is this a scam? Has anyone tried it?

2. I cannot design websites from scratch, but I can make a website with weebly, freewebs, etc. (drag and drop). Some people have told me I should build websites about certain topics, put google adsense and affiliate products on the site, and then sell the site after a few months. The problem is, this will take long to start, and I would probably only get 200-1000 per site if I am lucky.

3. Other people have told me that I should purchase a website script, that you install and creates a user interactive website. I have found a script that lets users submit and share their own music, and another one which is sort of like a Linkedin kind of website. Both of the scripts cost money however. But, I do not think just ads and affiliate revenue alone could make me six figures.

So, does anyone have any superior ideas? What about programs like GDI that aren’t scams? Please help me.

1. Google ‘pyramid scheme” – the pyramid eventually falls and you never get the money.
2. Plenty of children out there designing websites on the cheap – just visit any engineering college.
(or even high school)

I’m thinking of setting up a pixel site thats different (quirky) for people to put their links on.

I was perhaps going to make it theme based like (http://www.bigbenpixels.co.uk/) and in the shape of a automobile for automobile advertisers or

the shape of a home for landlords and letting agencies. (this is just an idea)… or just make it similar to the million dollar page ,
I was also going to try to gain advertisers by saying a cash prize of state 50 to a 100 pounds will be won by one of them at the end of a year period.etc

I just wondered if you think this is an ok idea or will people just give it a widebirth and think “hmmm we have seen this before etc”

I was looking through these kinda site the other day and must admit I was almost tempted to purchase some pixels in hope of more exposure to my blogs and websites as they lack in traffic, the pixels were 5 to 10 dollars each witch I thought was a bit costly.

Im trying to think of something new and quirky and other reasons for a site like this is getting linkbacks from people when they advertise and thus making it viral.

bigbenpixels.co.uk was put up in October 2005 and up until now has sold less than 0.001% of the available pixels, so anything similar looks doomed to failure imo.
