Erm.. You’ve realy lost me try better wording it but from how i understand it when you refresh the page it goes back tot he original color.
Well you will want to store the value in a cookie or session. If you have no idea how to make either of those with JavaScript you need to learn a LOT more.
Another great option is to use PHP, a server-side languge. It is definitely the best option in which no one can steal the script because it’s not in the source code anyways, and you can do a lot more with it because the form support is much, much better.

look at how you’re setting the “color” variable. you’re putting the text “to what color do you wish… ” as the value of “color” …
color=prompt(“To what color do you wish for the scheme of this page to be?”)
… and then you are trying to set the bgColor of the page as that text (the value of “color” variable) …
